When to say "Uncle"????

I've been thinking alot lately about everyone's pain.  How my heart goes out to those in our community that live with daily pain and varying levels.  Pain is exhausting and I honestly don't know how everyone copes with it over the long term.  I am proud of them ......

At what point in our journey do we seek help for pain management?  At what point is our treatment providing "enough" relief.  What is good enough?  50%, 60%, 70%, 80%??  For example, my pain is less than it was a year ago, but when to do we accept that some of the pain is coming from damage to our bodies that will never improve and when to act and pursue more improvement for pain that still results from running a simple errand?  When do we try complimentary therapies?  Can we afford to financially???  I always fear altering more than one thing at a time so I can monitor effects ....  In some places there are wait lists, copays, untrusting care-givers thinking that we are "drug seekers", but given the option, we actually want the least invasive, cost effective, effective therapy.  None of us wants to be out of our minds on some chemical that we don't even want to HAVE to take ....

What about the unreliability of our pain????  Some days are better than others, and some much worse than you could imagine.

At what cost do we say enough???  The price we pay mentally, physically and financially factors in at every stage of our treatment.
